For Chinese, their writing system actually makes some sense and has some benefits. For Japanese, it only seems important because they stole most of their vocabulary from Chinese.

Probably the same reason there'll never be a spelling reform in English, everyone is already familiar with the writing system and it would cause too many problems to change it now (especially in the digital era where 99.9% of the population is literate and writing is needed in pretty much every job)
