Hey Jow Forumsbros
I got an offer from a global company to do an internship in Russia. The work enviroment is English.
I can't speak Russian though. So socializing and stuff would be a bit hard I guess. The pay would be around 1200$ a month. Should I do it? It would be an adventure for sure. But I am scared as well. I don't want to get stabbed by Vitaly for trying to talk to his gf and I also don't want to work 6 months straight and not go out.
Opinions? Another important note: It is my only chance to get away from where I am right now and would be a legit break from my studies, which I desperately need
Should I go to Russia for an internship?
Are you sure it's a real offer? It is unusual for a non Russian speaker to be offered a job in Russia as an intern, where most of what they will be doing is low level communication. It sounds like a nightmare.
Yeah, it is offered from Siemens.
It is part of some sort of programm.
But you are right. I don´t want to end up there and do total shit work and hate my life even more. That would be a living nightmare as well.
The advertised position at least sounds good, regarding the lined out tasks.
Other opinions?
I would do it, it's a life changing experience to get to live in another country for some time and getting accustomed/learning their culture
Russians are really nice and average people no different than white americans. You'll have great laughs with the folks there and perhaps even meet the love of your life (which would be unironic because they all want to leave whichever shithole they have dug themselves into)
Go for the sake of adventure.
You can get stabbed for talking to wrong girl, but Russian work culture is less enslaving than Western. Or maybe it's Ruskies who are not such masochists for Mr.Goldberg as Westcucks are.
Nevertheless, go for it.
>go to russia
>for 1200$ a month
Yikes.... they'd have to pay me WAYY more than that to go anywhere near that shithole lol.
in retrospect, there isn't much to spend on over there
food is cheap, liquor is hella cheap, rent is cheap
It's not that bad
Do it. It will be an adventure. What age are you?
It'll look good to show you have international business experience
>it's a life changing experience to get to live in another country
That´s true for sure.
I hope you´re right with the rest as well.
>Go for the sake of adventure.
Yeah, I´m thinking like this all the time. Even if I don´t really like it. It still is a fucking unique adventure. And I can´t regret not going in a few years.
>Russian work culture is less enslaving than Western
That´s good to know.
>What age are you?
25
>It'll look good to show you have international business experience
That´s a good point as well, yeah.
Science or engineering? Sure, it's a top location for that but be prepared - Moscow/St. Petersburg are expensive as hell.
>get stabbed for talking to the wrong girl
pls elaborate
russia seems comfy but wat?
Slaivc social values are like the lite version of muslim social values.
You don't approach a girl if a borther/cousin is around.
It’s pretty obviously, you guys have never left the states! Hate to say it, USA and the people are shits in a shithole, you guys are fucked.. btw I aren’t a Russian either. You guys need to travel more...
but how the hell would you know when and when not to?
Not that much russians can speak english, but if they can, stick to these and you will be fine. I'm putting it in this way since when you find people who speak english in countries when they don't need it on daily basis it means you probably found a person who has ambitions / is into self development, etc, not a redneck or average joe; you will find what to talk about and it's kinda a good indicator of person's interests / values in life. Can't put it into words correctly but I guess you got the point.
Russia actually is very similar to US, both are huge countries (in terms of land), both are fucked to hell (politics), both have heritage and history. Just don't mess with Jow Forumstards and find a soulmate with similar interests, go out and learn culture. There are reasons why all these proverbs and stereotypes about Russians exist. Just be open hearted and let them show best of their culture. And don't hang around with rappers, they are cancer all across the globe
If you're in the provinces your father and her father arrange something.
If you're in the city you better learn to run fast.
yeah okay but what if you're a foreigner?
Science
Regarding the money. I have a bit of money saved up, but you´re right. Not the cheapest place to live in. I would get cheap accomodation though.
>pls elaborate
Friends of mine went to Russia. Did make out with a few girls in a club. Russians reconized they weren´t Russian. Then they waited for them after they left the club and beat the shit out of them that they ended up in hospital. And note the following: They were only jealous. Those girls weren´t even their girlfriends or friends or anything.
But I guess that can happen somewhere else as well. I would just need to adjust to a new game.
If you're a good looking and obviously non-poor foreigner (Western European looking) the girl will approach you, often times agressively. You still get the brother/cousin problem.
Don't be afraid dude, Russians are friendly, they would try to know you and your culture, talk and practice English and etc. That's a big country and people don't feel like you are taking their place, instead it's unusual and cool that someone decided to spend some time in their country. 1200 dollars is great for all cities but Moscow, it's a bit more expensive there.
Unless it's not some roid head/ fighter idiot, you will get a warning.
Then just go away, don't try any smart ass comments, since shit can escalate quickly.
It's not happening on daily basis though, and rarely in places where normal people congregate.
There is no guideline.. just classic street IQ, I guess.
w-what if I'm a handsome pale southern euro / MENA?
im actually jewish tho but that's what I look like
Thanks user. That sounds like solid advice. Any idea how to find such a soulmate? Couchsurfing or stuff like that maybe? I don´t think the guys at my workplace are in my age.
Also I´m not sure where I´ll end up yet if I take it. Can be St. Petersburg or some town with 300k people which would definetly be "hard mode"
Chad Mena or falafel Mena? Mena looking guys have been part of Russia for centuries, plenty of people dig the sun tanned look but it's only making your brother/cousin problem worse.
well, some would say I resemble a greek god
Haha you guys are so American. Russia is not how people depict it here. I went on exchange in St Petersburg and also visited Moscow. Didn't see any kind of trouble. Not even a heated argument. Banged 9 girls, dated a true marriage material girl. Spending 1 hour a day to learn Russian now so I can move there permanently. The West is fucked.
Also, if it's Moscow, you'll be poor at that salary. If it's St Petersburg, you'll live just fine
>can move there permanently
how? I was considering an investor visa once I /makeit/
Tinder is great in Russia for English speaking girls. The best girls do not speak English though, so fire up Pimsleur. It's a great investment
It's like a 7-year process to get citizenship. Perfectly doable. And yea, if you're not gonna wageslave, you can show that you've made investments or started a business to get that temporary residence permit, after which permanent and then citizenship
Thanks based user for your Input. It won´t be Moscow. That´s for sure. Either St. Petersburg or some 300k people town.
Russia is a third world country though.
t. been to russia
Then do it. St Petersburg has a lot more English speakers so if you haven't learned anything by the time you'd go, choose that. You'll love how politically incorrect everything is there. Girls there are no doubt the best in the world imo, and I've been on all continents. They won't care much how you look. And they'll love you for being Western. But if you can't learn to be a man and lead, dominate and assert, you'll struggle with them
I lived a life of luxury with OP's kind of money. Amazing restaurants two times a day. Uber around everywhere. Even Uber to luxury fitness and wellness center every other day with eight different saunas and steam baths. Nowhere near third world infrastructure
Hard to give an exact how-to guide, but generally you can just go with someone to a bar / music event / art gallery or whatever event when you can randomly ask someone "excuse me, do you speak english? oh wow thanks *blah blah* mind to hang around a bit? oh I'm from US by work, gonna be here until next year, what about you?". Then just start talking about something. For sure they will be interested to hear first hand experience from foreigner, exactly as you will be interested how things are in Russia. If person will appear good to you, you can ask if they can show you places, like you're for long there, you want to experience best of this time, and they want to be proud of country / nation so they will be very open to show you their cultural treasures.
It's that simple, just make friends. All across the globe, in all nations and in all languages there are proverbs like "friend in need is friend indeed" and etc, what I want to say that all people are same no matter of country or nation, they all want to be happy and live in joy. If you can make them feel this joy they will be glad to make you happy in response. Just don't be spoiler and don't have that stereotypical mentality of "I'm american, I can do whatever I want, I'm the lord". People easily can tell if you have that kind of mindset and you will get what you deserve in this regard. Just be nice, make love not war and you will be okay
rusanon here
op, listen to me. the chance to get stabbed or even get your ass kicked in Moscow/Saint-P is significantly lower than in any western big city i swear. not sure about rest of country cuz it’s kinda shithole but trust me Moscow and Saint P are extremely comfy and cheap. the only flaw is they’re cold af at winter. and no nothing will happen if you try to talk to a girl that has her bf/brother next to her, except they are muslims (you will learn recognize them quickly).
i live in moscow and have been to saint p many times ama if you want
>That's a big country and people don't feel like you are taking their place, instead it's unusual and cool that someone decided to spend some time in their country
that’s a legit point. might be the only european country with such notion of people.
op just go to either Moscow and Saint P. It’s a strange country with 2 top tier absolutely beautiful comfy and safe cities but the rest of country is a huge shithole.
Really? My gf is from SPb and I saw tonnes of guys get beat and there are lots of drunks. And I’m not talking getting beat in an alleyway. This was getting beat on Nevskiy metro station in the evening when people were going from work.
Thanks rusanon! Appreciate the help.
But no more questions so far.
Kaluga would be the other option next to St. Petersburg. Maybe you know it.
Thanks user, good input.
I got around quite a bit already and was always able to connect to people. I was just wondering in this case, because I know they barely speak english there. But got it. Just "hit and miss" in this regard, untill I find someone. Makes sense
What's the capital gains tax in Russia? Is crypto taxed? Can I own a double barrel shotgun in my house with no bullshit? How hard is it to find weed I know it's decriminalized in Russia.
ofc it’s not so far away from moscow but as i said before, i HIGHLY RECOMMEND stay in moscow or saint-p. they aren’t as expensive as you might think. you will be feeling comfy with $1200/month even in moscow. studio or 1bdr is about $500-600/month and everything else is cheap af. fast internet $7/month, huge meal in mcdonalds $6-7.
saint p is a bit cheaper: studio/1bdr $350-450 there
Alright, let´s see if I can manage to get to St. Petersburg. Would be nice. Thanks friend!
