Not that much russians can speak english, but if they can, stick to these and you will be fine. I'm putting it in this way since when you find people who speak english in countries when they don't need it on daily basis it means you probably found a person who has ambitions / is into self development, etc, not a redneck or average joe; you will find what to talk about and it's kinda a good indicator of person's interests / values in life. Can't put it into words correctly but I guess you got the point.
Russia actually is very similar to US, both are huge countries (in terms of land), both are fucked to hell (politics), both have heritage and history. Just don't mess with Jow Forumstards and find a soulmate with similar interests, go out and learn culture. There are reasons why all these proverbs and stereotypes about Russians exist. Just be open hearted and let them show best of their culture. And don't hang around with rappers, they are cancer all across the globe
