Gas mask protection

So quick rundown of my situation, i was handed this gas mask from a family member recently, they said it was a WW2 gas mask and believed i'd like it as a gift.

So after i got the mask i decided to see if i could make it functional again, it didn't have a filter or hose attached so i got some cheapo soviet surplus stuff and hooked them up, it has a "Minor" fogging issue, but seems to create a seal despite this.

I got one of the big filters because i imagine big filter means better protection, i live close to a power coal power plant and the air in this area is often kind of terrible, i was thinking of using it on walks.

but it would also make a good evacuation tool encase of an incident

Now i'm asking how would be fair way to test the mask, i tried deodorant and it seems ok.

I don't really have the funds for a decent mask, and i rather like re-purposing old stuff, so keep this in mind, i'm not looking for another mask for protection, just to get this one fully functional and test it.

Can i get some help Jow Forums?

What?

No you fucking retard. Do not make the mask functional. With its current value a and the cost to make it functional you will lose more in value on the mask and spend more and gain fucking nothing. Just buy a Cold War mask and be done with it you fucking moron.

You can get a good fucking surplus mask for under $30 you stupid fucking moron. Stop ruining shit.

>they said it was a WW2 gas mask
It's not worth staking your life or health on 70 year old rubber, OP. Even if the seal seems to be good, there's a decent chance that it will not protect you from actual poison gas.

>using an old soviet filter
mmmmm, asbestos...

THIS NIGGA GETTIN MESOTHELIOMA

I doubt it was worth much, generic surplus junk, i think it's either British or Canadian, anyway, it's not something i have a interest in collecting, just something i have for SHTF purposes.
practical use only, besides unless you run a active museum 5 days a week, you are a glorified hoarder.

I read somewhere that Soviet GP-5 filters have asbestos, i got this chunky one to avoid that, also even if they did, it would protect me more than it harmed me.
Elaborate please?

Pretty much every filter from the combloc has asbestos, and NATO filters pre 80s are dubious. Just get an israeli 4a1, and use modern filters if you care about your lungs.
