Realistically? I would set it up as a hunting truck. Set it up to comfortably support a group of huntin bubbas. Consider yourself the captain of a battle taxi. Your job is to keep moving, to get in and out of shit and keep moving. The bubbas lay down the lead, volume of fire by group. Only armor up the parts to keep moving, wear body armour. Lots of armour. Modify the heat/ac so everyone gets an airduct hose down their shirt. A mobile shooting platform more than a weapon platform. Unless you got glow in the dark funding, or are a collector of heavy weapons the middle east heavy gun truck concept isnt feasible to a 1st worlder. Better to get a bubba on a .50 with a few 5.56 back up bros.

With swivel seats like on a fishing boat the boys in the back can cover all angles and concentrate fire. A ladder rack rail frame can be covered with tarps of various colors or camo. Intercom system like on a motorcycle to all passengers.

Oh I love my B2500 even with only four cylinders. I however have developed an obsession over armoured busses. I dream of a flex fuel electric hybrid pic related. Decked out as an RV, foldable solar pannels on the roof with a hatch to get up there from inside. Rolling bunker with portable high ground. Destined to rule over the campsites and parking lots of our doomed grizzly future.

With a dakota like that you can get an extra inch or so of height in the front by adjusting the torsion bar. You can also clear 31x10.5 tires on the stock suspension. A set of grabbers on cragar soft 8s is pretty badass and won't break the bank.
For a couple hundred you could add a front hitch

Expensive for trucks with IFS. I say this because I had an old Durango I fit 33's on. Although OP can get a practically free 2 inches by doing a torsion lift.
