I just went to MEPS, got all my shit done, 93 on ASVAB. I'm leaning towards 68W with airborne. Not too worried about the airborne part but I'm wondering if 68W is a good MOS.

Like you do actually get to do cool infantry shit with the door kickers while also being a medic? I've read on here that some 68W guys got posted to a clinic for like their whole enlistment and I don't want that happening to me. Does going airborne along with 68W make a difference?

Bump

I know the rule is "Anything medical you thought happened, didnt", but does this go for ocs applicants too?
I was browsing some of the forms I'd need for my packet and it mentioned a review of medical history(cant remember what DD form it was) and I got a little spooked I guess

>Not too worried about the airborne part but I'm wondering if 68W is a good MOS.

Depends on you and your unit. Could be chill af. You could just end up hating your life.

>Like you do actually get to do cool infantry shit with the door kickers while also being a medic? I've read on here that some 68W guys got posted to a clinic for like their whole enlistment and I don't want that happening to me. Does going airborne along with 68W make a difference?
If you want to kick down doors, be infantry.

If you go airborne, you'll be put in an airborne unit and spend your whole enlistment doing PT, cleaning and spending miserable time in the field.

If you're smart, you knock out some college and try to go PA

Haha, no. Youre not gonna be a door kicker. At most your gonna be a emt riding around on standby to use bandages. Everyone is fucking medevacd now. Someone gets shot, stabalize and rush to hospital. Thats it. No more battlefield life saving shit like in the old days. Shits streamlined now. Just grab the guy and go back to base.

The ONLY place you could actually serve in a combat role is 18D, but even that you could be unlucky and never see combat and end up just checking foreigner prostates for an entire first contract.

Just lie, fuck them, how will they fucking find out? Are they gonna walk into every hospital and ask for your records? Do you have an obvious physical issue they can visually see?

If you cant lie, then just tell the truth and get the waivers like everyone else.

Any 31K's here? I really enjoy working with dogs, and have trained several already, though not in the police training method. I'm assuming I'd work with MPs or maybe EOD or some kind of shit like that, depeing on what the dog is trained for. Anyways, how's the job in general, and do you think it would be good experience for someone looking to join law enforcement after service, specifically for a K-9 unit?
Also, is 31B really that terrible? I hear a lot about guys getting treated like garbage, or the opposite with MPs being absolute fuckwads to people.
Overall, what I'm looking at is 31K, 31B, 11B, or 17C. I'm only looking at 17C since I've spent ~6 years working in an IT company, and I've done a lot of programming and other shit on my own.

Of course 31k will help once you get out. I think k-9 supervisors start at like 90k in texas border/customs.

How's navy master at arms?
I want to do that riverine shit and MA is one of the jobs that can do it.
But if it falls through for whatever reason how is being a MA?
Do they only get out on boats or is there a chance I'll end up as an ID checker on a base?

31K is really hard to get a slot for. Be sure to have a backup plan.

Pretty retarded question bros. Where can I read up on these positions like 19k, 11b, 17c etc.? The generic websites tell me fuck all about anything and I'm considering army or Marines. I keep blowing off this army recruiter that keeps harassing me at work. I work in a mall and he sees me all the time when walking through. I know you guys will help if I have something specific in mind but I really don't :(
24 and about to graduate cawleg. Broad question for broad answers to get me started

Attached: oaktree.jpg (1024x1002, 153K)

why are you joining
19k, 11b, and 17c are very different what the fuck do you want out of the military?
Stop looking at jobs and ask yourself what you want out of the military then find the job and branch that gets you that. Don't go "I WANNA KILL PEOPLE" and disregard your post-military life.
>boutta graduate college
why aren't you using your degree?

Attached: 1519090450066.jpg (800x600, 454K)

God damn bro go easy. Been lurking these threads like a mad cunt and idk wtf any of them mean.
>what do you want out of the military
That's what I'm trying to figure out bruuhh
>Reading comprehension

I'm also currently in the job search with my degree as well. Why so salty and grilling with questions when I'm here trying to find information on what the combination of letters and numbers mean? Once I figure that out and look into more ON MY OWN I might come back with better questions more suited for your highness

Attached: 1459360890574.jpg (451x604, 64K)

Not gonna lie, the autists on reddit like to blog about their MOS and lives alot, try a google search like 19k reddit.

>barber I've been going to for years is right next to a Marine recruiter
>every time I walk by on my way to get a haircut they try to talk me into enlisting

Attached: 1509120044989.jpg (400x400, 31K)

See, now why couldn't this autist give me something like this?

Fuckin hate Reddit but itll get me started, thanks m8

Tell them you're a felon with AIDS

Not him, but he asked a prettybasic question that we always ask new dudes out to better guide them. Those numbers reflect general career area and the letters designate the specialty in that job area. For example, 11 is infantry, 12 engineering, 13 artillery, 14 air defense, 15aviation,18 special forces, 19 armor, 35 intel, 92 logistics, etc. Letters differentiate job specialties like, 11a is infantry officer, 11b infantryman,11c indirect fire(mortar) infantryman.

God send

>he asked a pretty basic question that we always ask new dudes out to better guide them

I understand that and I've witnessed it from lurking, but he's coming at me like I'm a total tard wanting something high speed and looking to get the thousand yard stare.

100% chance your ass is checking IDs. Top 5 worst rates for sure. Choose something else.

Anyways user, i recommend going on wikipedia, looking at each branch of the military, then figure out what interests you, dreams, goals, etc. Do a mock fitness test in your room, just see how many push ups and sit ups you can do for now, lets say base level average is 30 in each. If you cant do at least that, youre in very poor shape and we can give you some guidance on workout plans etc. After you figure out your interest/goals/dreams and whether or not you are in shape or not, come back here and ask what jobs do such and such that relates to your interests, or ask what specific jobs do if any seem to catch your eye.

pls don't join the military

Just got kicked out of Navy bootcamp ama

should I lie about my asthma? its pretty under control. im trying to join the chairforce btw

how

Took a shit during the pfa

You sit on your ass with a radio and binos and pretend that you’re Infantry. Also your school is in 29 palms. Hope you like sand.

Again, reading comprehension. That's not what I'm looking to do you mong. You and the other dipshit user are doing a great job of convincing me not to join out of fear of working with dumbasses like you in it

Thanks a ton man, will do. Of course I will have to work on the fitness but the pullups is what I'm really worried about

I can actually shed light on this

If you do, don't ever say shit or hint about it. If you have ex military Tricare from a family member, the military already knows and will kick you out during boot camp.

>11b
>19k
>he's coming at me like I'm a total tard wanting something high speed
typically people join these jobs wanting to do the job on foreign soil and light some shit up.
>>what do you want out of the military
>That's what I'm trying to figure out bruuhh
Why are you joining if you don't know what you want out of it? Knowing what you want should be the first thing you do know, the rest should fall in line with that.

>convincing me not to join out of fear of working with dumbasses like you in it
You legitimately should not join with this attitude. Guess what, there are tons of tards in the military.

Attached: 1523312318175.jpg (1600x1194, 163K)

So just to be clear

The military has no way of knowing if I went to a therapist and took Prozac and Xanax for a couple years unless I spill the beans, correct?

They have absolutely no way of knowing unless I open my mouth? Even if I get a job that requires a TS?

Yup. No way other than if you did all of this under military healthcare.

I call bullshit, had tricare under my dad, didn't mention shit and they never found out about anything.

Ya, but when?

Most of these kids joining are young enough that the digital system existed when they used military healthcare.

Former 0313 LAV crewman here. If anyone has any marine corps related questions, I’ll answer what I can, though I did go through boot camp in 2007, so I may be a little out of date.

I lied about an allergy to penicillin and narrowly dodged the peanut butter shot because of it(moment of truth)One kid I knew lied about bi-polar disorder, another lied about screws in his tibia. We were all infantrymen. They’re going to scare the fuck out of you at MEPS. It’s their job. The fact of the matter is that the military is full of liars. If everyone told the truth they wouldn’t have bodies to fight the enemy with.

Sup dude, another old timer here. Just got a questions about marksmanship for you guys. So when you went in you were still using iron sights and KD(known distance) ranges that had set targets at set distances so you guys would learn how to tell how far away someone was with some accuracy right? Im trying to figure out the differences in how the usmc and army learns to shoot. Also, are your boots still learning iron sights or straight up acog? Still using A4s or did you switch to the m27 or whatever its called?

Why did you lie about an allergy to medication?

But no big deal, Ive never had a penicilin shot in the 5 years I was in. Worst case they give it to you, see a reaction, and fix it, you wont die since they only give those shots in hospital settings anyways, and then you just say you didnt know you were allergic, cause most people dont.

They almost got me with that moment of truth shit. They said they were going to do a full background check and have the cia go over our lives with a fine toothed comb. My recruiter didn’t tell me shit about that, and I was an impressionable 18 year old. However, I still thought to myself, “they’re not going to find out you smiled pot a half a dozen times in high school, just stay seated”. I don’t think any of the guys who went up got dropped though, I know at least 2 in my platoon got waivers for brands they had.
So, moment of truth, just stay seated.

I had pneumonia and got asthma from it as a child while in a military hospital in 1998
MEPS was clueless.

This is probably more of a Jow Forums question, but is it possible to significantly increase lung capacity over the next six months or so before applying for the Australian AF? Looking at going into an intel position but I've got mild asthma - I don't really get asthma attacks or anything but my lung capacity is lower than normal so I want to work on that if possible. Should I just do swimming/cardio?

You really are a fuckin tard
Enjoy mopping grass.

So, last I heard in boot they’re using the M16A4 with the acog for qual. When I went through I used iron sights A2, but the rest of the time in I qualified with an M4 w/acog.
And yes, we learned some distance judgement, but that was mostly academic as you spent the whole time on a known distance course. It was more about fundamentals of posture, breathing, sight picture, and sight alignment. Blew my fucking mind when I was told I should have my front sights in focus and be concentrating on the where the front sight post was in the rear sight aperture, with the target blurry in the background. But you know what? Once I started doing it, I was nailing it.
Also,
>old timers
fugg

Definitely. Look up VO2 max workouts.

Just enlisted as 68W with an option 40. What are some things to expect past basic training? I know how long the AIT is, but what is the daily schedule like?

Also, any stories/information on RASP would be appreciated

any tips for getting an MOS in the 03 field other than getting 0311?

i am naive and sheltered. can someone explain the differences between the all the main special forces groups of each branch?

Attached: marshmallow me.jpg (600x341, 10K)

no

One wears green berets, one is made of aquatic mammals, and the other two don't matter.

Google it

What's the best MOS for someone who wants to die but isn't willing to an hero?
>literal cannon fodder

42A

Oh God no. What MOS would let me sweep for IEDs in the big ass truck?

88m or 18x if you want to get shot in the back by sand monkeys/SEALs

Operator or Pilot?

88M

>Go 11b
>First skirmish
>*Accidentally* forget your rifle
>welp, looks like I need to charge
>Unsheathe you sabre and charge in glory
Or just airborne and don't open your chute

stop posting
Dude just plain don't join the military if you don't want to live. By doing so you put not just yourself but others at risk. Just go to mexico and fight the cartels instead or something.

Ayy so while I'm a nasty girl awaiting to go to basic on REP63, apparently I'm gonna be given the SFRE every month until I ship out. Besides the 12 mile ruck, 5 mile run, and APFT, anyone know what it's like?

Be strong and able to walk far with heavy things if you want to be an 0313, LAV crewman require a higher gt score, though I’m not sure which ones. Mortorman need decent math skills. You can try to get a contract for a specific mos, but you’re always at the needs of the Corps.

Kids these days will never know that A2 life.

For army, we are focused on reactive target training, basicly making sure at a base level we can react to multiple targets coming from different directions. Recently ive been studying up on how the different branches have been teaching marksmanship, and how they justify it over the other branches training. My conclusion is one is not better than the other. They each serve their purpose for each branches purpose.

Hahahahahaha oh man. I'm bringing my crossbow and buying a fuckin katana. You'll see me on the history channel one day as a celebrated bad ass when really I'm just some fuck who wants to take LARPing to the next level.
>fight the cartels
By myself?? I would but just like taliban, they all look the same as civilians. I'm not suicidal, I just hate the human race and would like to do my damnest to drag as many guilty mother fuckers down to hell with me as I can.

Every month? Fuuuuuck

Lmao start learning as much as you can on recovery and mobility shit to prevent injuries.

Since several have said/recommended 18X, ive been doing a lot of reading, where does RRC fall in the mix of those?

I did, looks like lots of overlap of duties between the branches at that level

Do they accept retards with only a GED?

Attached: 1528386919968.jpg (996x720, 125K)

That’s the impression I got from what I’ve seen of army markenship training. Different strokes for different folks if you will. When I was in soi we did a lot of the tables 4 and above. Those are all the walking on line doing the failure to stop drill (Djibouti shooty) and other multiple shot/multiple target drills. So that made sense for the Iraqi urban combat we were training for. And of course when I got to the fleet it was all vehicle gunnery from there on, except for the kd course.

RRC is a tier one unit that does spooky direct action stuff as well as recon and related things. After op red wings failed they were sent in and they slaughtered like 200 taliban dudes with a team of like 30 guys.

Yes.

You need to score above a 50 on the asvab IIRC.

So if i had been thinking about 18X being lofty, i should stop even looking at RRC

RRC is a unit that falls under the command of JSOC but is technically within the 75th. They do spooky reconnaissance and more. They are also very very quiet to the point that even regular batt guys don't know shit about the unit. They're also very very small (smaller than delta) so they don't take too many recruits. The guys they do take used to come from only the 75th but now they've opened it up. Selection for it is brutal. Best way in is to go Option 40 and spend sometime at at least a SL level.
Yuppers. Focusing a fuck ton on mobility shit right now probably more than most guys. Actually working with a dude that used to train D1 athletes so he's been showing a bunch of different exercises for coordination and some other stuff.

Cool

Attached: 1527786905766.png (621x905, 498K)

Lol... yes if you think tier 2 is too much, you're a tard if you plan on going tier 1. You NEED the mentality that you WILL be the baddest war fighter on earth, or you're wasting time and should probably just be a POG tbqh

>Lol... yes if you think tier 2 is too much, you're a tard if you plan on going tier 1

I didnt know it was Tier 1 :(

I initially asked about 11B/Going Ranger, but people from the previous thread were recommending 18X on account of my APFT score and age, so i was doing some reading

And I love James Doakes from Dexter

It's more so that he really shouldn't be worried about getting into RRC at this point considering he hasn't even made it past the Q or basic for that matter. I mean I think about future career shit like this pretty often but I just let those thoughts drift away as it's not really important right now vs. learning basic shit like land nav.

>It's more so that he really shouldn't be worried about getting into RRC

RRC question guy here; wasn't even asking about getting in, was just looking to see where things compare.

I may be out of touch, but im not too out of touch

It just happened to appear in my readings

>green berets
Army. Trains foreigners to fight for them, integrates with foreign forces, sometimes performs direct action but mostly focused on big picture stuff.
>rangers
Army. Direct action guys who specialize in stacking bodies.
>RRC
Army. Technically a component of the 75th Ranger Regiment but really a separate tier 1 unit who stack bodies big time.
>160th SOAR
Army. Aviation unit providing air transport to pretty much all SOCOM units.
>Seals
Navy. Supposed to focus on underwater demolition and port seizure but end up being used as an all-round direct action unit these days. Book deals if you join.
>Swcc
Navy. They do tactical boat entries and insert seals into hostile coasts. Dunno much about them but I wanna say someone on here is a swick.
>cct, sowt, and related
Air force. SOWTs specialize in reporting weather conditions on the ground and CCTs specialize in providing air support. Despite the description these guys can be attached to any high speed unit from marines to delta force.
>PJ
Air force. Pararescue, insanely fit guys who pull everyone's chestnuts out of the fire when something goes wrong.
>ISA/Task Force Orange
Who?
>Delta
Tier 1, baddest dudes on the planet, who knows what they do, et cetera.

Hope this clears it up.

it does perfectly, thank you

No problem. If you're curious about that stuff, check out the book Relentless Strikes by Sean Naylor. It was written by an investigative journalist but he managed to get a shit ton of sources within JSOC and the book is cited to the brim. I think he brings up RRC a couple times and even ISA.

>If you're curious about that stuff, check out the book Relentless Strikes by Sean Naylor.

I am, thank you!

Damn i came here and just asked about 11B as a 29 year old, theres so much shit I've never heard of

MFW

no one talks about my unit grey fox

Attached: 1527122544341.gif (413x243, 51K)

explain

they don't exists

He's a fairy tale. The Imperial Watch pretends there is a thief king named the Gray Fox who controls all the thieves in Cyrodiil.

There's also.
>MARSOC/Raiders
Marines. Created because they were tired of being left out of spooky shit. Joined SOCOM then got kicked out under falsified charges. Investigation cleared them but they refused to go back to SOCOM. In bad shape because they have no clue what their current purpose is.
>Force Recon
Marines. Provides forward reconnaissance though not to ISA level. May or not do oper8ting depending on how mismanaged they are on that day.

This is actually how RRC guys learn fieldcraft. They just play Bethesda games until they get their sneak to 100.
Gray Fox is actually (not sure if you were joking) an old code name for ISA. I assume they're called like the "Studies and Analysis of Analytic Operations" now or something like that.

Oh right, I left them out since they're not in SOCOM. Oops.

MARSOC is I thought? Then again I'm not really how they're being organized or run at this point.

True. It's also well known that Delta trains by playing Call of Duty matches 24/7. Quickscopes only.

Look, you're an amateur and I really shouldn't be disclosing this to you- much less the public internet- but we don't fucking quick scope or play call of duty. We strictly do 360 no scopes and 720 no head scope latter jump shots in Battlefield 4. This isn't fucking middle school. We're the best of the fucking best.

Anyone have mil relationship horror stories to inspire me to stay single while in

Shes literally going to cheat and spend all of your money while you're away, and keep doing it to you until you break up with her. I've had more military wives flirt with me because their husbands are deployed than literally any other demographic of women on earth. Just accept you're probably dying alone bro.

> best BF4 player I've ever met was 2nd ID
> 2nd ID therefore is the most elite unit in the US military
No problem man! Here are some more books on SOF that aren't shit:
Warrior Diplomat: A Green Beret's Battles from Washington to Afghanistan
Dirty Wars: The World Is a Battlefield (super lefty but good to get a different perspective)
The Way of the Knife: The CIA, a Secret Army, and a War at the Ends of the Earth (interesting for understanding relationship between SOF and IC)
88 Days to Kandahar: A CIA Diary (written by agency fellow but talks about work with Army SF a ton during initial invasion of Afghan)
The Only Thing Worth Dying For (more SF in Afghan)
The Good Soldiers (not SOF, covers 11bs in Iraq during surge but very well written)

That's about it. All of these will give you a new perspective or expand on a topic from another one.

Kid i mentored and trained to prepare him for ranger regiment, got married in AIT to an ugly trailer park chick who was 8 years older like 26, made it through Airborne, went to pre rasp, and dropped the week before rasp because of "back issues" then was stationed in germany with his wife, but not really because he was in an airborne unit at another base, and she didnt want to leave her unit to go to his, they lived in their own perspective barracks for 3 years in germany not living together and not collecting extra money, his "back issue" wasnt too bad since he was jumping every month and hitting 300s on his PT test and getting gold on the german pt badge tests, then they both reuped for 5 years with a 2k bonus total for both so that they could be stationed together in colorado where they live in base housing and dont collect bah and now they are 25 and 33 and she never wants to have kids because she was abused as one and doesnt want to do the same.

Funny story about this couple, first time they both had holiday leave, they stayed the entire 2 weeks cleaning out her parents trailer and both of them bought her parents a 300k house and pay for it to this day. They have the type of mil relationship where the guy has zero friends and is constantly hovering around the wife.

I told this kid millions of times not to get married in ait, and not to marry other soldiers. I wasted too much time and money getting this kid out from living under a bridge(literally), paid his 700 dollar fine from when he got caught living under a bridge(he payed me back 1k with his first paycheck), and then coaching and training him to be prepared for regiment.

Im still salty about it. Perfectly good soldier with a bright future, getting fucked over and life ruined(imo) by some chick.
