its not a meme either, to some degree anyway. the banshee is very smooth shooting. with the right buffer weight, it could be on the mp5 level of smoothness.
one major flaw seems to be premature wear on the extractor spring. supposedly it wears to the point of replacement within 1000-2000 rounds. cmmg does not sell the spring separately though, they do replace it for free if you send in your gun which is lame.
or buy the $50 replacement parts kit
