Hello Jow Forums, why aren't you meditating? Mental calmness, clarity and spiritual gains can be yours in only minutes per day.
Some people like to meditate by repeating a mantra or focusing on an image. Some people like to meditate while listening to binaural beats. There are lots of guided meditations available online. Many methods are available and there is no way to say which is right or wrong. Its your choice how you want to do it.
I try to eliminate all verbalization and visualization when I meditate. Whether sitting or lying down, its important to keep your back straight. Some like to meditate first thing in the morning, others before bed. I like doing it after my workout and aim for around ten minutes. Its a great way to cool down, calm my mind and slow my heart.
I also tried a ten day meditation retreat. It was a Vipassana course where we didn't speak, ate vegetarian meals, and sat in meditation for ten hours each day in 1 - 1 1/2 increments. It was quite the experience.
What say you Jow Forums? Do you meditate? Do you have any tips, stories or suggestions?
meditation is for queers who think depression is real

>10 minutes Those are rookie numbers my friend. You gotta at least meditate for 30-40 minutes. I meditate for 1-2 hours whenever my schedule allows for it.
Bentley Bell
Lol ppl who think depression is real think that its impossible to be cured.
You are sorta misinformed.

I can't sit still for more than 10 minutes and while I'm meditating my mind is races from one topic to the next. What do?

I have similar problem in the past, static meditation simply don’t work for guys like us, try some sort or “dynamic” meditation like yoga (plus is gonna to give you a extra body control) tai chi is good too but is hard find a good teacher and become boring for most people.

That means it's working user. Meditation is not about stopping your thoughts, it's more about observing them without being drawn in by them
Tyler Cox
Never thought of it that way. I always thought meditation was being able to focus on nothing; clearing and cleaning the mind for a short time.
Grayson James
Nope. That's dumb. You're dumb. Meditate on that.

I actually really enjoy meditating and it's extremely helpful before bed, I unironically look forward to it all evening. I'm fairly good with mental discipline and doing though-dampening exercises like visualizing myself exactly, then me and my bed, then my whole room and everything in it, so on and so on
But I have the worst stiffness/pain in my lower back sitting on my bed meditating and I'm not sure what I can do better. It's very frustratingly distracting

Meditation is about removing yourself from the stream of thoughts so you can observe them. That's why it's called a "higher level", because it's like second-order knowledge. You see the thoughts come and go and you don't get dragged along by them or react emotionally
Don't think of it as fighting thoughts. Think of it as letting them flow through you and recede

>and sat in meditation for ten hours each day in 1 - 1 1/2 increments What if you had to go pee?

Different kinds of meditations exercise different parts of the mind. Clearing the mind and focusing on the silence exercises tranquility, focus, and the ability to release. Removing yourself from the stream of thoughts is a practice in awareness and mindfulness. There are a lot of kinds of meditations. Ask yourself what you hope to achieve from meditation then do some googling to determine what kind you should pursue. Good luck man.

Mate do this, sit in a chair preferrably wooden only have the bottom of your back against it and be sitting upright. Have knees at 90degree angle have your fingers interlocked in your lap. Be in a room with no noise or put headphones in and lsiten to this youtube.com/watch?v=ZBOSExYWgLw&t=3631s or something like this. Then all you do is just focus on breathing through your nose. Your mind will wander don't get frustrated just keep bringing it back to your breathing. Do this for 15 minutes everyday for a week and it will make a big difference.

Mate I have like an hour to lift on a given day I can't be doing that haha

Vipassana and associated Hindu meditation methods are demon worship. No surprise that every experienced meditator becomes a monist who believes he and the universe is God.
Instead learn the lost Byzantine tradition of hesychasm - meditation done the correct, Christian way. It will make you a better, holier person and it will reconcile God's immanence with God's transcendence in your heart.
Pro tip: when your “monkey mind” is racing (especially if you’re a verbal thinker) just treat your thoughts like they are someone you’re only half listening to. You nod along and say mhmm, but you’re not really listening. It will move from subject to subject, it will try to become the first person speaker so that it feels like “you” but just nod along and and let it talk. Your higher self will start to notice a pattern in its tactics.
Remember, meditation shouldn’t feel like a prison. You should feel like you’re focused on a heavy lift.

I was planning to start today because I need mental stability and I need it fast.
