/fast/: The Snake Man Slimmith Edition

Previous thread - FAQ
>What is /fast/?
Fast is a thread for the discussion of snake juice fasting, dry fasting, OMAD, OMAW, AFD and IF (Why should I fast?

Read all of these, they might answer some other questions you may want to ask.

See your doctor before fasting if you have any sort of chronic illness (type 1 diabetes, malnourished, underweight, pregnant, breastfeeding)

>How do I safely do an extended fast (approx. 4-5+ days)
New snake juice recipe here - youtube.com/watch?v=1onQ0nxgWFM

Old recipe -
>2000mg of sodium (preferably Himalayan Pink Salt) max
>4700mg of saltless potassium max (NoSalt/LoSalt are high potassium-low sodium salts available in grocery stores or Amazon and the like)
Mix these in a liter of water and sip it throughout the day. The apple cider vinegar and lemon are optional but recommended for 10+ day fasts.
You can also do this if you feel lightheaded, weak, dizzy, nauseous, etc., on shorter water fasts. Don’t do this while intermittent fasting.

>Won’t I go into starvation mode?
No. It only occurs at extremely low body fat (4% or less).

>Can I workout?
Yes. But don't overdo it.

>Will (something with calories) break my fast?
Yes.

>Can I drink coffee, tea, and diet soda? Or anything with artificial sweeteners?
Black, unsweetened coffee and tea - YES!
Diet drinks and artificial sweeteners are debatable (continuously)

>Do I need a multivitamin?
No. Fat burning provides sufficient vitamins

From Cole's Instagram -
>I started this fast on Monday August 20th at approximately 1 A.M. At this point my weight was well over 200 lbs. I had a DEXA scan done Monday after noon where I weighed 203 lbs. The starting pictures were taken Monday night where I weight 200 lbs. I fasted for 10 days on Snake Juice a completed low intensity weight training for most of those days. I then decided to begin a 5 day hard dry fast. After 15 days of fasting I weighed in tonight September 4th at 165.8 lbs. We will have a video made show the whole transformation after the second DEXA scan is complete. I hope this motivates fat people to stop fucking eating! You’re not going to die fatty!

He was happier with his previous body.

Is this legit? Its a huge red flag when this guy claims that he has 7 percent body fat while it's obviously around 12.

Technically same body. Also no.

Attached: 1531520894351.jpg (500x499, 35K)

He's also very clearly doing the "pregnant belly trick" in the before picture. Not saying he didn't lose weight, but you can fake a huge difference by taking a picture while purposefully distending your stomach as far as possible, and then another picture where you instead keep your core compact and flex your abs

>will have to fast in case anything goes wrong during the hurricane this week
this faggot thread will finally be useful for something

Attached: 1536547166969.png (855x768, 435K)

I want to believe. But the first thing that comes to my mind in these pictures is exactly what the last user said; compare his limbs, neck, back. No difference. Red flag to me, your body indiscriminately chews fat reserves. It doesn’t just take the belly and go. But there doesn’t appear to be any noteworthy difference in the rest of his body. Not to mention using the beard growth to obscure the chin, one of the clearest indicators harder to compare.

That being said, it does seem like it has benefitted more than a few people? At least from the ‘submissions’ into his channel.

He didn't come out of that unscathed. Man's truly insane. The stuff he's willing to subject himself to, all in the name of his cause.

Agreed. That's why I'm trying a fast myself to see if it's bullshit (see ) Worst case scenario I lose however many gains I can possibly lose in 10 days, find out for myself this fasting shit is a fucking meme that only helps complete hamplanets, and then I just go back to normalfag cutting methods. But if by some miracle it does work, then I get a quick and effective way to cut without all the tedium and wasted time. But considering this guy is the ONLY example of someone with any muscle mass at all doing these fasting cuts, I'm highly skeptical. I'll just have to wait 10 days and find out.

Be sure to tell us about your results. Many people consider this guy an idiot and the fact that he's advising to drink your own piss doesnt make it any better.

Will do. I plan on taking weight and picture each morning and posting in these threads for the next 10 days. I'm also going to do my best to assess strength levels after I finish the fast and return to maintenance food intake. I just pulled my back though (which is the entire reason I'm doing this, because otherwise I'm just sitting around not making any gains anyway) so that might interfere with strength assessment, but still. I've had back tweaks before and it usually resolves in a few days.

I'm also going to be lifting to the best of my ability, working around the injury as needed. Normally I do texas method, but I'll be lowering the volume because it's pointless on a cut.

Good luck and godspeed, user. I’m in the same boat with the cutting method, because of some pretty serious leg burns I’ve been stuck indoors for a while now. Eager to get back to normal

in addition to the 'pregnant belly' thing, he did do a completely retarded bulk. could that have something to do things being with somewhat uneven (compared to conventional fat gained over long periods of time)

What ever happened to the girl with breast cancer he was going to cure?

She got cancer

>Trying to finish 3 day fast
>first 3 day fast
>grandparents just invited me to dinner
>I am somewhat compelled to go because they're babysitting my sister for the week, and i'm responsible if they need something
Motherfucker. And I just hit that fucking zen mode you assholes talk about.
I had mental clarity, dammit.

Attached: 1437419146478.gif (500x394, 432K)

When does the "mental clarity" happen? Is it after the 2nd day? I hear the 2nd day is the hardest, and that's what I'm mentally preparing myself for. This first day has been piss easy, 23 hours in.

I've done 3, 3day fasts and one 5 day fast
I have never had the mental clarity

2nd day was easier than first, for me, but other anons say otherwise, so mileage will vary i guess.
After 2 full successful days, i woke this morning very early and with a clean mind.
Couldn't hop on videogames for very long; They didn't entertain me. Nor did youtube.
Wrote some fanfiction with more concentration than I've ever really been used to. Pumped out 2-3k words or something in a couple of hours. Posted it and then started going through my day mentally preparing myself, which I usually don't feel compelled to do.
It's an odd sort of feeling.

I started the fast with a nofap, so that might have had something to do with it.

routinely do 5 days and 72s. keto refeeds. 20lbs a month average.

good point, he shouldn't be smiling in his fatty pic but not his trimmer pic.

Cole is an idiot savant with infectious energy, that's all.

>tfw omad but want to try a 3 day fast
>gf won’t let me

Interesting. Got any advice for dealing with cravings? I haven't had any problems yet, but if things are really bad tomorrow, I think I'm just going to go take a walk on the campus green of the local college to pass the time or something. Tomorrow is a day off for me, and when doing normal cuts, free time is always the hardest because idle minds are the devil's pie-hole. Meanwhile on working days I regularly end up unintentionally doing IF just because I never bother bringing/buying lunch.

Shouldn't tell people you're fasting or else they consciously or subconsciously try to sabotage your efforts. Instead do something like fake being sick and claim that you're too nauseous to eat or something.

>won't let me

uh dude, what?

is she force feeding you or something?

is she covering her asshole in delicious whipped cream or marshmallow fluff that you can't resist eating off of her because you also get to eat her ass? what's the deal man? it's your body fucking fast if you want to.

she's just worried you'll see yourself as too good for her. do it anyways, her insecurity will make your relationship even better.

>Got any advice for dealing with cravings?
If you are craving carbs, treats, sugars and shit like that. You should fast.
If you are craving things like meat, vegetables. Then that's a decent time to end a fast.

oh look another meme diet/fast

Never even completed a 3 day at this point. The most I can say is to keep chugging water.
Walks help. My cravings came in waves, so finding something to do will keep you right.
also, could be some sage advice, depending on your situation and goals.

...I'm talking about dealing with hunger pangs during a fast. Tomorrow will be my 2nd day and supposedly it's the hardest.

Hunger? Either go for a light jog, or take a nap, or do something productive.

she basically just thinks it’s super duper unhealthy, although she accepts the IF/omad lifestyle... faking sick is pretty good idea though i wouldn’t want to miss work or fun shit. she does all my cooking so i feel bad complaining about anything food related, and she autisticly counts my calories and macros at my request.
i’m just bitchin i guess lol

Prolonged fasting only really helps Jupiter-size hamplanets. Everyone else is going to lose muscle, and the less fat you are, the more muscle you're going to lose. That goes triple if you've lifted for a while and aren't a pure DYEL. (DYEL's aren't immune, either.)

The reason people look more muscular in the before and after pics is because their muscles are more defined, and their frame is tighter.

I tell you this as someone who's given fasting far too many chances than he should have and paid the price for it.

>she autisticly counts my calories and macros at my request

what a sweetie qt patootie... jelly...

Anyhow, just try and show her some of your research and stuff to show that its safe and talk about the benefits of being fasted (muscle preservation, etc.) while taking in 0 calorie electrolytes.

it's also possible she just likes being in that nurturing nourishing role where she gets to prepare your food so maybe she could prepare the snake juice for you or reminding you to check your ketones.

Care to give me details? Part of the reason I'm doing this is because I haven't seen any clear-cut information on the effects of prolonged fasting on someone who's not DYEL. Even if I end up getting completely shrekt, I want there to at least be ONE (1) learning experience out there so that everyone isn't just extrapolating off data/anecdotes from hamplanets and non-lifters. And hopefully the muscle mass gets regained quicker than it took initially.

Really, this is just one of those things where I want to see for myself so that I don't sit here with that nagging thought of "is fasting legit?" in the back of my brain. Might as well do this one, and even if it fucks me up and kills my gains, hey at least I know better now, and can help other people

Starting nofap and fasting today.

Time to ascend, lads.

the most NPC comment i've ever seen

you're not going to make it

Start here:
idmprogram.com/fasting-physiology-part-ii/

It goes into detail of muscle sparing effects in part 6 or 7 i think, but the whole series of posts should allow you to make your own decisions. The discord has plenty of support, even some heavy lifters if you have questions about fasted training.

discord.gg/snxdWP

it doesn't really make sense that fasting would kill your muscles faster than just doing a reduced calorie cut even if the cut was keto, does it?

I expect you'll be weaker but that doesn't necessarily mean you're losing more muscle mass, it just means your muscles don't have any glycogen to work with.

hahaah

COPE

The problem is all the people that have benefited from this are unlifting lardasses. They don't give a fuck about sparing muscle anyway. And cole looks fucking DYEL.

how good is omad?
i don't lift, I'm doing only calisthenics for now

>>Also, what do I need for my autistic snek jooce bullshit? I already happen to have himalayan pink salt laying around, and I just went out and bought some morton KCl salt substitute. I saw the video in the OP and fuck all that bullshit buying magnesium sulfate and the like.
>What's the purpose of the vinegar and lemon juice? Those both have calories in them.

So the purpose of the electrolytes is that your body needs them to be hydrated, especially if you're working out. Sweating without taking in electrolytes is how you die.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon Juice are both apparently to keep your kidneys in good shape during prolonged fasts. (Kidney stones can apparently be an issue)

a rather generalized statement. Plenty of lifters do IF or longer fasting, its pretty much Martin Berkhans whole schtick.

Try it yourself, you have nothing to lose but fat.

I'm talking about strength pre and post fast, not during. Obviously strength is going to be down when I am running on empty. I'm going to be comparing my previously-outlined strength stats going into the fast to how my strength is after breaking the fast, returning to a maintenance diet, refilling glycogen, and so on. I'll be documenting my strength in the weeks post-fast to see how quickly it rebounds, and to what extent the rebound will be.

That's all in-theory stuff. There's a huge difference between theory and practice, in a lab vs in real world practice. That's why just having cellular assays showing receptor activity isn't good enough to put a drug on market. At the end of the day, you still need to run clinical trials to see if there's a difference in outcomes, along with side effects and such.

Good shit, look forward to seeing how you fare.

Also, saw your pic in the last thread. mirin' bro.

Where to buy the ingredients for Snake Juice?
Potassium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, shit like that.
In UK specifically.

I'm referring to prolonged fasting, not short term fasts where you still eat a normal caloric intake, just timed differently.

>Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon Juice are both apparently to keep your kidneys in good shape during prolonged fasts. (Kidney stones can apparently be an issue)
That doesn't even make any sense. pH balance of gastrointestinal intake doesn't mean jack shit outside the GI itself. Your body auto-regulates pH through tubular secretion and CO2 exhalation.

Thanks senpai. Part of the reason I'm doing this piecemeal as a go is because it will help keep me accountable, which wouldn't be the case if I just did it on my own and then uploaded the final results at once. Gotta keep myself honest so Jow Forums doesn't call me a pussyboi

I’ve seen results from 3 day fasts before but my doc said that at my age I’m just doing more bad than good to my body. Wat do? Should I keep doing short fasts or just stop. Im 21 btw.

>That doesn't even make any sense

Outside of his actual fasting/electrolyte intake advice Cole is a bit of a loonie (believes you can absorb water through your skin when you are dry fasting, like a sponge) so that's not surprising. Most people here have learned to selectively listen to him.

Just realized Sodium Chloride is fucking salt, but question still stands.

Cole looks worse everytime he pulls these stunts

>Sodium Chloride is fucking salt

Attached: it's salt.jpg (1280x720, 73K)

The body needs essential amino acids to build muscle, preserve muscle, and keep organs performing optimally. You can only get those from food. Boosts in catabolic hormone during fasting are negligible compared to the sheer amount of protein breakdown that occurs when you're not getting your protein, and even on their own when you're trying to bulk on an IF program.

You can listen to Dr. Jason Fraud, and live in fear of Stevia packets because you think they'll spike insulin, or you can listen to the legions of doctors and nutritionists who reached a consensus about this decades ago. Just think: if fasting really preserved muscle while burning fat optimally, don't you think world-class bodybuilders would all fast before a show?

Well, they're both salts

you could just take some BCAA then and it wouldn't really break your fast or ketosis because it's like 50 calories. that could be for the next fasting experiment if this one is unfavorable.

You've been saying this for like 2 days already. You could've started today Monday. Stop lying user, you ain't dping shit.

Anyone have any advice for dealing with bad breath due to hunger? I brush my teeth 3x a day and my breath still starts to stink after a few hours. Should I try to find some 0 cal gum or something?

anyone else never have a craving for anything specific? Its always just a state of "i want to eat something" so i can just shove a potato into my mouth and be done with it. the only exception is chicken wings and thats cause i live in the place where they are made the literal best.

bodybuilders are retards who take drugs

I'm extremely skeptical of the muscle-sparing claims of fasting. That's why I'm doing this myself and sharing the results as I go.
But to play devils advocates, two points
>why don't bodybuilders do it
theoretically the catabolism would be exponentially greater the leaner you get. So someone like me who's probably like 15-18% trying to get down to 10-12%, it might be totally different than the BBers trying to get down to ridiculously low bodyfat. Again, in theory. Which is why I'm using my self as an n=1 case study.
>catabolism is occuring
Yes, but we also all know that catabolism occurs during a normal cut too. And a normal cut takes much longer. So it's not just a question of whether or not muscle breaks down, but how much catabolism occurs overall. If the amount of catabolism I get in 10 days is the same as the catabolism I'd see in 10 weeks of clean old-school cutting losing the weight amount of weight, then I'm still drawing even in terms of catabolism while also saving myself 60 days I could then spend lean bulking.

I got no bias on this either way. If it works decently, then I got a new tool. If it doesn't, then at least now I know.

I started my fast last night at 6 pm. It's now been 24 hours, 1 day completed

>bad breath due to hunger
two possible reasons
1) acetone on your breath from ketosis. Nothing you can do about this.
2) dry mouth which causes your breath to stink. Drink more water and stay hydrated

protein intake interferes with MtoR changes that occur during fasting. It turns off autophagy, which is a large benefit of fasting. If you are lifting, sure take your BCAA's, but not if just cutting.

>turns off autophagy

but if it's only like 50 calories how long could it really turn it off for? your body can't be running on no energy in whatever amount of time it takes to "switch" between one and the other?

Those BCAA's won't sustain your muscles over a prolonged fast. People on IF use them to prevent the fairly small muscle catabolism they get during their 16 or 20 hour fasting windows. They're also a waste of money and you don't need them.

Ketosis also isn't necessary, or even optimal, for fat loss.

You mean like Cole?

Unless you're burning 3500 calories a day, you won't be losing a pound a day, so you won't be burning as many calories on a 10 day fast as you would be on a 10 week cut of -500 calories below your TDEE. And this is assuming all those calories are coming from fat. If you fast, you can expect somewhere between a third and a half of your total weight loss to be from muscle, after water weight. If you lose that much during a conventional cut, you have seriously fucked up.

Well if you are 33% body fat like me fasting is fine. I can understand if you are close to single digit body fat fasting isn't something you want to do.

Most of us here are fat asses.

Not even that lean. Even at completely average body fat percentages, like 15%-25%, prolonged fasting will do more harm than good for your body composition.

idmprogram.com/fasting-and-autophagy-mtor-autophagy-1/

Fasting is still a meme
Develop healthy habits by exercising and eating at a slight deficit or you’ll never make it

You can't compare a 10 day fast to a 10 week calorie deficit.

The loss is slower but you will lose 10 pounds.

If you were do to a do a 10 week fast which is 70 days you would lose 50 pounds.

During a 7 day fast with a 2500 TDEE you would lose about 7 pounds. Fasting lets you lose weight at a faster pace so you can reach your goal quickly.

false

idmprogram.com/difference-calorie-restriction-fasting-fasting-27/

I just ended a 2 day fast 6 hours ago. I had dinner just just now but I'm craving an Ok Kola Champagne

Attached: index.jpg (300x300, 12K)

Yes, but let's break break down the numbers. Let's say you're 200 pounds at 35% body fat. That's 70 pounds of fat. Then, you starve off 50 pounds, with 35 of those pounds being fat. Now, you're 150 pounds with 35 pounds of fat, putting you at 23% body fat. If you'd have done the standard cut, and lost the same weight while losing only 5 pounds of lean mass, you'd only have 25 pounds of fat, putting you at 16% body fat. In the mirror, that's the difference between being grossly skinny-fat and being in fairly decent shape.

>taking a woman's advices on anything
not gonna make it

Wow, look at how swole all these guys are from all their hard labor at the munitions factory. Fasting sure is muscle-sparing.

Attached: 19558.jpg (480x357, 37K)

Its not that cut and dry man. Why would your body burn that much muscle mass if you have 70 pounds of fat to burn?

Of 50 pound weight loss why would your body burn 30% of the muscle along with the fat if you are 35% body fat?

Also studies have proven that eating at a deficit increases muscle loss even more than simply fasting although you are blowing the muscle loss out of proportion.

>people still bitching about the negligible muscle loss on a diet that deletes fat like no other.

Get the fuck over it. You probably don't have much muscle mass to speak of. Worry about building it up after you've gotten rid of your unsightly guts.

>Why would your body burn that much muscle mass if you have 70 pounds of fat to burn?

Because the internal organs need essential amino acids to run properly, and can only get those from muscle when it's not available from food. Because glucose is required for the brain to function, and the body will break down muscle protein to create glucose for it. Because muscle is a metabolically expensive tissue, and lowering BMR by burning muscle will ensure longer life expectancy during a long famine. Need I go on?

>Also studies have proven that eating at a deficit increases muscle loss

You're referencing alternate day fasting studies, where the total caloric deficit was largely the same over the same period of time, not a direct comparison between extended fasting and extended dieting.

the guy you've been replying to is a braindead faggot spewing broscience. the muscle you lose with prolonged fasting is negligible. if jason fung says it doesn't, i'm believing him first.

Actually, I'm spewing basic biology that anyone with Google or even Bing can find out for themselves.

At the end of the day losing the 70 pounds of fat outweighs any temporary loss of essential amino acids you might lose. We aren't talking about doing an extended fast for the rest of your life here. Once you lose the fat and are a healthy weight you just need to eat healthy at that point.

It really doesn't. Being underweight and skinny-fat are also unhealthy and unsightly. Even if you fast yourself down to where you look like you look like you just came from Auschwitz, you'll have to put some fat back on anyway if you ever want to rebuild the muscle you lost.

The conversation was in relation to someone who's not morbidly obese and already has gains and isn't dyel

And that is something that is preventable while fasting. If you lift even a little bit while you fast you will preserve what muscle you have and burn even more calories.

what is never getting into ketosis because all they were given was simple starches as they starved.

See: Minnesota starvation experiments.

also citing POW's as examples of fasting, ISHYGDDT

(You)

By what mechanism? Magic?

If you lift hard enough, your body will break down even more protein to fuel the workout, and it will have no spare protein to help the muscles recover, making the muscle loss even worse. Lower intensity workouts will just speed up weight loss, not necessarily improve the ratio of fat to muscle loss.

nah. thats not how it works. fasting keeps your muscle as long as you use them.

No, the body only uses protein as an energy source when all other sources (fat and carbs) are depleted, which takes a long fucking time, which is why you can go weeks without food before you starve to death. By lifting while fasting you start burning fat when you’re out of carbs, actively preventing significant muscle loss. Snake dude has a video describing two different fasts, one where he lifted during, and one where he didn’t, and he found almost no muscle-loss when lifting but lost something like 25-30% when he didn’t

Wut? You're 21 and fasting is supposed to be bad for you? Why'd he say that? Are you on diabetes meds?

Attached: 1536259459064.jpg (608x692, 42K)

Hey, I'm currently on a betablocker and an ARB, do I continue taking these as I fast or not? I'm assuming while fasted my blood pressure will be lower than when I'm eating food... I'm also exercising regularly which naturally lowers my blood pressure as well.

Also, I'm on stimulant medication, too. I obviously want to continue to take that while I'm fasted as I need it to function. And a daily baby aspirin. Other than that I'm not on any other prescription pills.

I'm assuming I'd DEFINITELY need to continue to take my baby aspirin (not clotting is non negotiable) but anyone with experience with the other stuff? FWIW it's well managed but they are preventative as going above into high BP would be bad for my prosthetic valve.

Your case is complicated. You should do this under medical supervision.

1) you shouldn't be getting advice from a bunch of random retards on a chinese cartoon forum. Consult your actual doctor regarding your meds
2) yes, blood pressures are typically lower when fasting or doing any sort of caloric deficit, for that matter. However, we don't know enough about your disease states and drug indications. BBs and ARBs are taken for more than just treating hypertension in and of themselves.
3) unless you have ASCVD, diabetes, or something else like this, you probably don't need to take your shitty baby aspirin. In fact, studies show that on populations where it's not specifically indicated (ie, all the mouthbreathign retards who just randomly take 81mg ASA daily for "heart health") it actually does more harm than good.

also I didn't see that last part about the prosthetic valve. Yeah, I'm not fucking around with that shit. And scrap what I said about aspirin.

This guy is fucking retarded and he's gonna die soon.

He needs to cool it with the constant "experiments". Look back at his original pictures and he's looking thick solid tight. Now he looks like a skinnyfat DYEL.

Consider contacting IDM people directly. They are medical professionals and deal with diabetic and geriatric and heart patients regularly.

Jason Fung started the program, so its entirely fasting focused.
