I've spent less than $20 on shaving supplies for the whole year. I can use a fresh blade every single time. 200 blades cost me 10 bucks.

safety razors are fantastic. Save 99% of what you normally spend on shaving, give a much closer shave with 2 passes and you can even use it to line up some stubble if you roll that way. Using anything else is pleb/sheep/brainlet tier

>ridiculously cheaper than normal razors
>"marketing meme"

Love using mine.

I either use my electric shaver or this, depending on how thick of a beard growth I got going.
FUCK having to buy $50 disposable gillette razors that don't even shave half as good.

t. arab

What are the best safety razors? I love feather blades, but I got some chink shit razor and it's starting to rust.

The whole "5 BLADES FOR EXXXTRA SMOOTH SHAVING ACTION" is muuuch more of a marketing myth.

I pay $60 for razors from dorco every 2 years.

user, they work fine. Also, you can buy a ton of blades and be set for ages.

Thanks for the fast replies. In truth I'm not really concerned with the price but more with minimizing the irritation that I developed over the course of several years due to beard thickening and daily shaves. I heard that safety razors should reduce it but even moreso should slant bar razors that supposedly cut along the skin rather than at it. Do you know anything about those?

anything chrome plated

legitimately better in every way, only downside is that you can cut yourself if you are retarded.

Better than disposable razors. Not necessarily better than electric shavers. Try for a few months and see for yourself.

STOP IT YOU ASSHOLES ARE THE REASON GILLETE LOST 8 BILLION DOLLARS THIS YEAR

good, fuck them
maybe they should go make more commercials marketting to trannies, surely thatll improve their profits

they're definitely cheaper. and I do get a better shave with them. maybe not that much better of a shave, but still. can't go wrong with them.

...He didn't (just) ask if the cheapness was a meme. He asked if they're "better for shaving": smoother shave, less likely to cut, less irritation, less complications, etc..

Just cause something is cheap doesn't automatically mean its better than the more expensive version.

It is marketing from razor, blade, and supplies manufacturers after all. They want you to start buying more expensive shaving creams (totally worth it), and try different razors (meaning that you buy several, but use one or two). There's nothing bad about it though as their products are better than mainstream shaving supplies.

yes and cheaper blades, false move though and they'll cut ye and the bleeding won't stop

Also don't use shave gels. This stuff last for months and never ever get irritation. I have to have everyday and this saves my face.

>smoother shave
Yes.
>less likely to cut
It's a straight razor, are you fucking retarded?
>less irritation, less complications
That's up to how well you use it.

Shaving it´s not only about the safety razor, it´s about the the cream or soap that you use, the after shave balm, the blade. I´ve been one year on wet shaving and for me it´s a ritual because there are so many combinations you can try, that makes every shave you make unique.

All that stuff brings the razor companies a fraction of the profit they make on cartridge razors. That's why they started making cartridge razors in the first place.

This

T-totally unrelated - it's because zoomers don't shave qz.com/1680613/pgs-gillette-writes-off-8-billion-as-men-stop-shaving/

Ain't no myth man.

Blades are like 10 to 30 cents each.

Buy a mild razor and sharp blades, you'll get a better shave than the coal-burning Mach whatever razors.

Merkur razors are nice.

Feather blades are very sharp but the most expensive... like 30 cents each. Feathers cut great, but I tend to get more nicks with them.

If you use are dull'ish blade, you'll get irritation if you have thick hairs.

excellent fitness question user and the answer is use an electric razor.

But you need to spend 50 or 60 bucks every year for a new head on your electric razor.

$20 of double edge blades will last a year even if you use a new one every shave.

NGMI

99% of a good shave is the razor and blade.

Get razor burn? You a more mild razor. Mild means one that doesn't expose as much of the blade as others. Get tugging and irritation from that, get a sharper blade.

They are better in every way but it will take you from 1 to 3 months to really learn how to shave. I actually shave in 3 different directions now and my face is always super smooth

Venus head razors and shave gel are the smoothest shave I have ever had. You can shave in both directions and not only not feel it at all, but get to the skin and suffer no drying or ingrown hairs for it. It's like $20 every couple of months. They last a long time

Yeah i know. You know which blades are great? Persona blades, you get a close shave with almost no nicks and irritation

Gillette lost 8 billion dollars because they advertise poorly to sell mediocre products to people who can't afford them.

Gillette makes cheap safety blades too you know. They're p good, but not my favorite

Gillette are safe most probably why they cost more, unlike 'safety' razors, safety razors aren't safe, easy to cut yourself and they are a weapon in prison.

it's pretty easy to avoid nicks with a safety razor.
But if you do cut yourself often, spend $2 on a styptic pencil. Rub it on your nick and it'll stop bleeding immediately.

>styptic pencil
How is that different to an alum block?

Never heard of it, I always used the one in the pic
These guys last for months

I just took my grandpas old safety razor from the 60's for free, shit still works fine. Razor blades cost dick all as you say.

Just the fact that razor blades are a massive scam is reason enough to use a safety razor, I have no real complaints. I'm not sure it's ideal, but it's definitely not bad and whatever other razors offer extra (if anything) is not worth the cost at all.

Sure thing. I'm just saying that some part of the money the money saved on cartridge razors you'll inevitably spend on more expensive creams and aftershaves and on other stuff. Safety razors are a niche product, and niche product manufacturers try to make that you don't just routinely consume one same thing but become engaged, try out new things, spread the word, make threads on Jow Forums, etc. But again, it's not a bad thing.

I'm just saying from the point of view of shaving quality. I personally get the smoothest shave from Philips shavers, but I don't like the process; safety razors are so far the second best thing.

This. US-made Personna work best for me.

Yep. I used to like Polsilver, but they are discontinued, and the remaining blades are a bit expensive for what they are.

Got a merkur back in the winter, never going back

I like mine. Found it at a dollar store bundled with 100 razor blades.

I used astra blades and found they were a good balance of sharp and forgiving.

I prefer something a little sharper than astra but they're a good choice. They do rust kinda quick though, unless you use them every day you pretty much need a fresh one per shave.

Yes, my skin used to get really irritated after shaving but since I've switched to a safety razor and learned how to use it optimally my skin has been much better. It's because there's one sharp blade cleanly cutting the hair as opposed to like 4-5 shitty blades pulling your hair and scraping your skin. Only downside is that it can take a bit more time but you'll get quicker with practice. Just make sure u read up well on how to use it, esp if you have sensitive skin.

Frankly, the actual razor has the biggest impact on shave quality, not really the blade, unless it's too dull.

I used a feather blade a few years back, but it diced my face up like nothing else.

Then I got a more mild razor, and feathers are great with it.

Attached: double-edge-razor-2.jpg (729x1757, 370K)

I love mine

Astra is the one I went with from my sample pack. Feathers are sharp but unnecessarily aggressive, astras are sharp but not so aggressive.

No you can't unless you go sideways.

They're called safety razors because they have a bar in front of them.

Compared to a straight razor, safety razors are extremely safe.

>Safety razors are a niche product, and niche product manufacturers try to make that you don't just routinely consume one same thing but become engaged, try out new things, spread the word, make threads on Jow Forums, etc. But again, it's not a bad thing.

Niche now, but they were the standard decades ago.

1. You save a ton of money on shaving supplies by using safety razors.
2. More environmentally friendly (if you give a shit).
3. Different safety razors have different levels of aggression, so if you're super worried about razor burn, then just use a mild aggression razor.

how many shaves you guys usually get out of a blade?

im up to like two weeks of shaving everyday still going pretty good

i want to give it a shot but even a basic safety razor costs too much in my country because only old men and hipsters use them, anyone know a china brabd i can get off aliexpress for cheap?

Google “SEM image of razor before and after” and then just use a new blade every time since it’s like $0.25 and that’s the primary appeal of using the damn thing

4-5 max. Even after 4 I'm noticing a bit of drag. I think my blades aren't sharp enough generally, though.

neither. it's a fartketing fyth

I love using yours too. I use it to "shave" the doo doo off my butt in lieu of wiping.

How would shaving companies benefit from a "marketing myth" that encourages people to use razors that cost less and are far less profitable? You're a fucking idiot.

I got an Edwin Jagger. Don't have anything to compare it to but it's been a decent experience, well balanced and quite forgiving as long as your not being an idiot.

>Are safety razors better for shaving
it feels like they get closer than other razors, ye. the blades are also insanely cheap if you buy in bulk

I don't know about marketing shit, but they're 100x better for my sensitive skin. Zero ingrown hairs or redness since I switched over.

I have really sensitive skin, will it fuck my face up? The Schick blades give me a few small nicks and that's considered a good day.

Switching to a merkur/feather combo with a brush to lather up all but eliminated razor burn for me. Best shaving purchase I ever made.

I've found that safety razors are far less irritating than any gillette or 5 blade whatever shit

They’re fucking great. I got a 3 piece Merkur razor on Amazon and it’s a quality piece. Here’s my routine:
>wash face in hot shower (after everything else)
>apply pre shave oil as first layer
>apply canned foam as second layer
>do 1-2 slow passes with the razor
>clean remaining foam with wash cloth
>apply alum bar (optional, but strongly recommended)
>wash face with hot water again
>rinse face with cold water
>apply after shave balm

Feather blades are the only ones sharp enough to shave my breard hair at all and they only last me one shave. After that they start tugging and pulling like other blades do from the start. It all depends on your hair. If your blades aren't tugging or causing any problems then there's no reason to waste money swapping them early.
Who the fuck cares what it looks like under a microscope? Don't be autistic, be practical. Keep using it as long as it performs well.

Keep the blades fresh and don’t jump straight to super sharp Feather blades until you get the hang of it, and you’ll be fine.

Do you use oil at all? I find that helps a lot with smoothness using a single blader.

Which blades should I get then?

Smell my little butt, buttfuck fagdick.

i assume you use a new toothbrush every time too?

>“SEM image of razor before and after”

$0.25 is actually expensive for a blade.

I like the Gillette perma sharp ones, but it’s largely personal preference. Get a variety pack on Amazon.

C-can I shave my balls with a safety razor?
Or should I stick to my electric one?

I use a multi-blade thingy for shaving parts of my body.

Not a meme. Switched to these back when I had to shave every single day without fail. Also try different brands of blades. I know several other guys who use safety razors and the blade preference really varies by individual and makes a huge difference. You can find sample packs on amazon where you'll get 5 each of a bunch of different brands.

I’ve done it. It works. Just use the same products you would on your face, do several VERY light passes, and DO NOT use a Feather blade

I would say yeah, but also I have a little trouble shaving my chin. Otherwise, very happy with it.

Double edge safety razor is by far the best. Straight razor is a fun meme thats both extremely expensive and extremely difficult. Cartridge is a jewish conspiracy.

Shut up, just shut up.

I use edwin jagger

>t. cut his ballsack like a retard
I use my DE on my balls all the time. It’s way better than my cheap corded clipper.

Wow um okay, here we have a cisgendered white male mansplaining to us. You think you know about shaving bc of your face sweety? Call me back when you shave your legs once. Male privilege must make you stupid too, and thata the tea. Periodt.

LOL, you use your Dad's Erection on your balls all the time? What a weird faggot. Try keeping it to yourself, weird faggot.

It’s a myth, I switched back to 2 blade disposables because they aren’t as harsh on the skin and give a similar quality shave.

I use a Parker 98R because the long heavy handle feels comfy as fuck. Short handles make my hands cramp when shaving for some reason. For blades, I've tried quite a few but my skin is sensitive as fuck and I've found Voskhod to be the best. Based Russians.

Who /alum/ here? That shit works like magic on my sensitive as shit face.

Fuck yeah brother. I started using a dual edge without alum bar, then my dad convinced me to try it and I haven’t looked back since.

2 max, and I have to really be on point with prep and technique if I'm gonna get that second shave without shredding myself, but my skin is shitty and sensitive.

What brand and where can I find it? All I found is wilkonsen and they're pricey

Yes, it's fine. I shave my balls, base of my shaft, gooch and asshole with one. Only ever nicked my asshole once. Just be sure to apply witch hazel and lotion afterward or it's gonna be itchy.

i get an amazingly close shave with a electric blade...

What? I buy my safety razor blades from gilette.

I do like their deodorant

I used a DE for about 5 years. Then one day I grabbed my old 5 blade because I was in a mega hurry and I realized why DE got replaced in the first place.

Shaving with a DE will give you a better shave for sure, but it becomes a chore. When you have thick hair that has to be prepped with heat or conditioner before you can shave, you just get tired of it.

I still use a no-name 5 blade razor, now. I can shave in about 25 seconds and get on with my day. I'll do the DE ritual before formal events or going out with the lady, but I'm not going to waste that kind of time in the morning.

loser. i used FB on my face and dick for years. i rarely ever nicked my dick but shaved off plenty of pimples.
