I agree that Usenet is slowly dying. But I think the NNTP server/client model will survive (in some form.) It's has a lot of security features that are useful on the modern web. Message boards are kill, and piracy is kill, but someone will figure out another use.

Usenet died when fucking NZB became a thing and servers started archiving years and years of posts for braindead dumbass nupirate kids instead of having people continually actually posting things, creating a sense of community and interactivity and discovery.
