Sorry but I only know French books ive only heard of "The things they carried" which seems to be a god-tier book, but if you know some forums/imageboards of history autists, they will be glad to give you the names of the best books about the subject you are looking for.
Also if you are interested in a book, always google the name and read the comments of people who buyed it (amazon is good for that)

Documental films are only made for entertainment and they're full of stereotypical bullshits, and the format is way too short to give the tons of informations a book can give
