US military is incredibly powerful, but I think you're overestimating just how much. Look at how many resources the Iraq war took
You couldn't do the same simultaneously without allies (not saying they were that important in 2003) against more powerful countries like France, Britain, Germany, Turkey, Saudia Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Sweden, etc etc
