But it's not genocide because the goal was never exterminating a bloodline, it was crushing potential dissent in occupied territories. It's different from how the Germans would actively exterminate whole ethnic groups just because they belong to an ethnic group.

Russian victory meant a few deportations, decades of political repression and persecution of ideological dissidents. German victory would've meant mass executions of civilians and mass deportations to vacate the land for German colonists. It's important to understand the difference.

the very fact that the soviets even got to berlin was a miracle, their supply lines were stretched extremely thin and their logistics was a mess. They had to leave large parts of their flank undefended and a lot of the land they controlled completely unmanned to commit for the final heroic push to Berlin. If Germany hadn't been busy on the other side with the western allies it could easily had fended the invasion off much longer.

They were reported because they were politically active intellectuals, nationalists, ex-legionaries and Latvian army officers, not because they were Latvians. The same was happening everywhere. There was no plan to exterminate us, just to subjugate and assimilate us.
